The LinkedIn connection note character limit, explained

What fits in 300 characters and how to use them.

Updated 2026-07

A LinkedIn connection request note is capped at 300 characters. Spaces and line breaks count. Emoji frequently count as more than one.

Why the limit is useful

Three hundred characters is roughly four short sentences. That is not enough room for a pitch, which is the point — it forces the message to be about them.

A structure that fits

  1. Where you saw them, in six words.
  2. The specific thing you are responding to.
  3. The useful thing, briefly.

You can check any draft against the limit with the invite note counter.

Start the habit this week.

Install it, run one search, and save five people. That is the whole first session.
